Academy Awards Luncheon: Stars Attend Annual Event
By Steven McIntosh, Entertainment Reporter
Los Angeles – 179 of this year’s Oscar nominees attended the annual Academy Awards luncheon held on Monday, creating an exciting event full of A-list celebrities, outfits, and memorable moments.
1. A La La Land reunion
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, famous for their roles in the 2016 film La La Land, attended the luncheon as nominees for their respective movies Barbie and Poor Things. Gosling wore a lilac suit, paying homage to their previous best picture-nominated film.
2. Two nominees formed a backbenchers club
Actor Sterling K Brown and songwriter Diane Warren, both aware they are not frontrunners in their categories, stood together in the back row, representing solidarity and acknowledging their fellow nominees.
4. DOG
Messi, the border collie from the best picture contender Anatomy of a Fall, accompanied by his trainer Laura Martin Contini, stole the hearts of the actors at the event. However, Messi’s absence from the class photo raised some eyebrows. The Academy has received a formal complaint regarding the omission.
5. Carey and Emily repped for the Brits
Emily Blunt and Carey Mulligan, the only two British acting nominees this year, proudly represented the Brits at the Academy Awards luncheon. Despite fewer British nominations, Irish stars including Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, and Andrew Scott received accolades at previous award ceremonies.
6. Save a seat for us in the front row, will you please
A front row filled with award season heavyweights – directors Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese along with Lily Gladstone and Da’Vine Joy Randolph – captured everyone’s attention. This row’s collective awards buzz wattage guarantees an exciting competition.
7. Billie Eilish kept it casual
Billie Eilish’s signature unique style continued to captivate at the Academy luncheon. Her casual bandana, yellow jacket, and tartan trousers perfectly complemented her brother Finneas’ outfit. The siblings are nominated for the best original song, a category they already triumphed in at the Grammy and Golden Globe Awards.
8. We would like to be friends with this man
Cinematographer Matthew Libatique stole the spotlight during the class photo with his crossed arm pose. Nominated for his work on Maestro, Libatique showcased his sense of style and humor on the red carpet and truly represented his craft among the nominees.
9. Barbie was not snubbed
Barbie actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, despite not receiving personal nominations, attended the luncheon due to their involvement in best picture and best adapted screenplay nominated films.
10. If something is funny please share it with the rest of the class, come on now, we all like a good joke
During the class photo, Arthur Harari, nominated for best original screenplay for Anatomy of a Fall, burst into laughter. The exact cause of his amusement remains a mystery. Surrounded by talented colleagues, including the frontrunner for the best actor award, Paul Giamatti, Harari’s lightheartedness provided a moment of hilarity amidst the grand occasion.
The Academy Awards 2024, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place in Los Angeles on 10 March.
