The Barbenheimer ride continues. And Super Mario’s smile continues to freeze because the plastic doll Barbie he doesn’t want to slow down too much and is racing towards his throne this year. Despite taking a hit from two strong premieres, it managed to hold on to the number one spot on the overseas box office chart, taking in an additional $53 million with a drop of just 43%. In America, it already makes a famous 459 million, and Barbie can boldly race to more than six hundred here!
And it will be a comfortable journey, because the most important thing is already the pink production of Mattel and Warner Bros. long in the pocket. A billion has already fallen worldwide! The film thus became not only an exceptional pop culture phenomenon, but also a factory for hundreds of millions in the pockets of the studio and creators. Greta Gerwig can rejoice in the total triumph of her vision and look forward not only to the next weeks at the box office, but also to the season of annual polls and various awards.
We, on the other hand, have to fear what will follow with the “ingenuity” and “foresight” of the Hollywood bosses. Rumors about the requested pair, let alone information about plans to create an entire barbieverse, can be unsettling, because a repeated forum is sometimes no longer a forum. And it’s hard to imagine that the complete creative and acting ensemble would return and that the ironic, self-deprecating tone would work a second time. In addition, the toy giants are going to adapt everything from polly pockets, through Barney and He-Man, to Monopoly, which gives you goosebumps. Something tells me that this “feminist revolution” won’t bring much good for creation in the end, even if the filmmakers can enjoy themselves now.
The cinematographer is also pleased with the endurance Oppenheimera, which benefits perfectly from its qualities (reviewers’ and viewers’ ratings are enormously high, which I don’t fully understand, but I’m in a clear minority) and, of course, also from a certain Imax unavailability, which is most clearly manifested in the sell-out of the Prague hall. Nolan managed to create a capital event, which makes me happy both for him and for the whole business. And also because, after all, the studios could listen to original materials more often and sometimes give an outstanding author a hundred mega for his vision. It can pay off handsomely, even financially.
Oppenheimer blasted it for another 29 million from US theaters over the weekend (down just 39%!) and is counting for a nice 229 mega. Globally, it is already 558 megabytes, which offers a total prospect of eight hundred million from cinemas alone. It’s one of the most optimistic box office stories of the year, and it’s nice that it’s not a well-known brand behind it, but an original subject.
It was not until two years ago that the new ones dropped during their premiere Ninja Turtles supervised by Seth Rogen. The lively animated film – if I’m not mistaken, the fourth way to capture this comic book phenomenon for the silver screen in a big way – hit the family demand quite well, as it scored 28 million in the first American weekend and then a total of 43 million in the first five days of screening.
In contrast to the more reserved Czech responses, the film enjoys very good reactions in America, both from viewers and critics, with even 96% positive reviews (!) at a high rating of 7.6 out of 10. Sure, ecstasy like it is not the case with the last Spidey, but it should be enough for a more permanent interest and therefore also a kilo from America. And with a budget of seventy million, maybe even for the already announced number two.
His weekend mood was surprisingly more satisfied in the end MEG, who managed to leapfrog Oppie in the rankings and enjoy a thirty meg opener on the silver rung. Overseas reviewers sneered at the popcorn nonsense as it should and fried the sequel from art director Ben Wheatley with a lot of hate (only 29% of the texts are positive and the rating 4.5 out of 10 is desperate). But the audience is satisfied just like last time, and that’s why the film won’t burn in America.
But the first MEG became an unexpected summer hit mainly thanks to the rest of the world, and it will work just as well with the second one. This is because global revenues will be saved, mainly thanks to China, which has already contributed over fifty million to the account of the mega-sharks. Thanks to this, the worldwide launch of the second part is worth a beautiful 141 million, and thanks to this, MEG once again has a run-up to easily 400 of the world’s cinemas, as well as for the production of the third part. Which, with a powerful budget of one hundred and thirty million, is a small big miracle. Statham is happy, and after the mega shark and the mega octopus, let’s expect a mega stingray with a mega carp.
A new one continues to win the fifth place Haunted House. This capital Disney flop doesn’t collect a single kilo worldwide, which is simply a shame and, above all, a total scam. Tom Cruise is “just” biting the disappointment against that, which is also the ongoing 494 million for Mission: Impossible 7. Ethan Hunt has coached this in every way (as we’ve discussed in previous weeks) and he’s quietly crying at the sight of a three hundred million dollar budget and weaker sales.
On the other hand, extra hooting can still be heard from the camp Sound of Freedom. The drama with a modest budget is already enjoying eleven times higher sales, and even if it does not reach the overseas two kilos from the current 163 million, it is still an absolute dollar triumph. However, one of the film’s supporters will not enjoy it, who was arrested and charged with child trafficking—which is ironic not only given the film’s subject matter, but also because of the thrust of its “conspiracy” tag line, which likes to label Sound of Freedom doubters as pedophiles and fans of “rejuvenating Hollywood stars using the blood of stolen newborns”. A solid bizarro.
The top ten is rounded off by a praised horror film speak with mein the end quite satisfied Pixarovka Among the elements with more than four hundred million and very unhappy Indiana Jones 5 with, on the other hand, less than four hundred million from world cinemas. It was a painful farewell.
Complete sales chart here.
In a week, he’ll try to push a solid-looking horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeterthe hits of the past weekend are happy that planned Grand Touring pushed its overseas launch to another two weeks.
