Warner Bros is assembling a five-star cast for the film Barbie from Greta Gerwig (co-written with Noah Baumbach). We knew that the director of Lady Bird and Daughters of Doctor March had appealed to Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling for the main roles of Barbie and Ken. Deadline now adds the names of three popular comedians: America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) and Kate McKinnon (who has already met Robbie in Scandal, also starring Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron). However, we do not yet know what roles they will play in this feature film. The pitch of this feature film inspired by Mattel toys is also kept secret, even if the source assures that this “will not be a usual approach to the story of the famous doll”. Barbie – the movie is due to begin filming this year.
