The 50-year-old doll, with a reputation as the best-selling toy of all time, will come to life through Universal Pictures. Recently, the film studio reached an agreement with the manufacturer of the blonde beauty – Mattel.
“Barbie is the most famous doll in history,” said Universal Pictures chief Mark Schmuger.
“So many variations of Barbie populate pop culture. We are grateful to Mattel for providing us with this extraordinary opportunity,” he added.
No word on which actress will play Barbie and her beloved Ken, but producer Lawrence Mark said the doll’s diverse career of 120 occupations (from astronaut to aspiring politician) offers plenty of storylines.
