Barbarian Attack! KKB Attacks a Village and Kills 100 People

OUAGADOUGOU – Government Burkina Faso said the armed criminal group (KKB) had killed at least 100 people in a village in the north of the country. It was the deadliest attack in the country in years.

Government spokesman Ousseni Tamboura in a statement blaming the Islamist militant group said the attack took place on Friday evening local time in the village of Solhan, in Yagha Sahel province.

“A local market and several houses were also burned in the area towards the Niger border,” he said AP, Sunday (6/6/2021).

Roch President Marc Christian Kabore called the attack a “barbaric” act.

A local resident who did not want to be named, fearing for his safety, was visiting relatives at a medical clinic in the town of Sebba, about 12 km from where the attack took place.

He said he saw many injured people enter the clinic.

“I saw 12 people in one room and about 10 in another. There were many relatives caring for the injured. There were also many people running from Solhan to enter Sebba. People were very scared and worried,” he told AP by telephone.

The government of Burkina Faso has declared 72 hours of mourning.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was outraged by the killing and offered the world body’s full support to the authorities in their efforts to address the threat to peace and stability in Burkina Faso according to his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.

“He strongly condemns this heinous attack and underscores the urgent need for the international community to redouble its support to Member States in the fight against violent extremism and unacceptable human casualties,” Dujarric said in a statement.
