Barbara Wetzel has just been appointed by decree of the President of the Republic dated July 22, 2022, chief of staff of Christophe Mirmand, prefect of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Bouches-du-Rhône region. She replaces Florence Leverino who has held the position since July 2019. This divisional commissioner of the seconded national police had been sub-prefect of Yssingeaux, in Haute Loire, for two years.
After studying at the Institut d’études politiques in Paris and obtaining a DESS in security law and policy, Barbara Wetzel began her career with the national police after being a student at the École nationale supérieure de la police in Saint -Cyr at Mont d’Or, in the Rhône. As a police commissioner, she worked in several cities from the year 2000: Lille, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Nouméa, Hyères and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Violaine Démaret, new prefect of Vaucluse
After a position as head of the information and summaries division at the general staff of the central direction of public security in Paris, she was seconded in 2013 as sub-prefect of the arrondissement of Lodève, in the Hérault then seconded as general manager of the services of the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer, in the Pas-de-Calais. In the meantime, she became divisional police commissioner in 2014. At the end of 2017, she joined the National Police as deputy departmental director of public security for Drôme in Valence.
