All we do is talk about Barbara d’Urso and the stop received by Mediaset. From September, in fact, the presenter will no longer be at the helm of Afternoon 5, the daily and afternoon program of Canale 5. The failure to reconfirm her role has caused much discussion and she herself has expressed herself on the matter. Now, it was Claudio Brachino who expressed his opinion on the matter. The journalist, who shared the adventure of Mattino 5 with d’Urso, defended it staunchly.

“They asked me to write a live morning program to counter Unomattina, the historic title of Rai1 which was doing very well. I did it and they told me that Barbara d’Urso would have joined me. In Rome there was the lunch you mentioned, we reached an agreement, which the company then finalized contractually. In January 2008 in studio 5 in Cologno Monzese, Barbara and I began the adventure of Mattino Cinque. A format – written by me – which is still very similar to that of the time today”, said told Brachino about that distant 2007.

Thanks to the journalist’s idea, the much-discussed infotainment arrived at Mediaset. “At the beginning Barbara and I had divided spaces, few encounters, the first even tragic… Barbara has a provocative way of being, she made fun of me… but in the end we found a chemistry. I have a beautiful memory of that season. We founded a genre television: infotainment, i.e. the encounter between the experience of a classic journalistic type and that which comes from entertainment”, said Brachino. Just in the last few weeks, the directives of the managing director Mediaset, who said goodbye to trash, have become the focus of attention.

“What I regret most of all, in addition to Barbara’s exit strategy which, however, concerns her relations with the company, is that it has been said that by leaving her, the era of trash ends. There has been confusion: Barbara, the trash and the infotainment genre are three different things. Barbara does not correspond to trash; trash is the linguistic excess that can happen in a season, but I don’t like the equivalence infotainment=trash. Contaminating information with the language of the show does not mean trashy”, concluded Brachino, thus exculpating his colleague Barbara d’Urso.
