Barbados Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, responsible for Sustainable Development, Senator Chantal Munro-Knight, said that COP28 was exceptional, especially with its practical approach and focus on achieving very significant results, which we saw during the event.

She said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the conference, that one of the most important results witnessed by the conference was the activation of the Global Climate Fund and seeing some initial pledges regarding it, expressing her hope to see more pledges to this fund, especially from developed countries.

She considered the activation of the Fund a great victory, especially for small island developing states, noting that it is a victory that has been long awaited for about 30 years. She continued: “Another thing that distinguished COP28 was the agreement on what is called a global inventory or assessment,” and explained that the special circumstances of small island states and least developed countries also constitute a very important issue, as these countries come to the negotiations with great ambitions about what they want to see and what they want. achieve it.
