BARÁK: Let’s not succumb to cycling. The wheel turned into an idol of aggressive ideology Opinions

The proposal to keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters when overtaking cyclists went to the Chamber of Deputies. Television reports on the issue showed people riding bicycles on a busy road as a convoy of cars followed. In this context, it is useful to think about the phenomenon of cycling.

The bicycle has changed from a common means of transport used to cover shorter distances into an idol of aggressive ideology deserving of the term bicycling.

His followers consider themselves humiliated, “black people of road traffic”, as Bohumil Špaček wrote in his commentary for iDnes.cz on July 16. In reality, however, they oppress car drivers and pedestrians. It may seem strange how a seemingly weaker road user, relying only on his own skin and clothing, can bully a stronger, sheet-metal one.

Quite simply, the same tactics are used by bikers and scooters. All you have to do is suppress the instinct of self-preservation and drive in a properly blackmailing way. No driver wants to hurt anyone, so he dodges, he can, in front of cyclists riding from the right, from the left and between lanes, or intertwining in front of cars. They also boast that bicycles – and similar scooters – are much faster in cars than cars. They are not, as long as they do not break the rules of the road.

On the sidewalks and in the pedestrian zones, cyclists together with electric scooters have the upper hand compared to pedestrians, as if the cars were driving on cycle paths. And they use it properly. Absolutely ruthless fast driving between people even after crossings, not sitting at the end of the bike path, all this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you’re standing on the sidewalk, looking at a flower bed, and just before you take a step back, a professional eighty-kilogram rider (or two) on a steel machine is behind you, a few inches from death. And the solution will be sought only with the first dead, as is the case in the Czech Republic with everything. The argument of cyclists that they are afraid on the road and therefore drive on the sidewalk has a full ten on the stupometer. It’s the same pearl of thought as the dog breeders’ sentence: “Don’t worry, he’s good.”

Dressage and loss of efficiency

For example, Břeclav is such a small China, where everyone rides a bike and the city has a suitable infrastructure. You see a lady, an umbrella in one hand and a cigarette in the other, stepping into the office in a skirt and pumps. No problem, everything works. However, this is an exception to the rule.

In general, cycling on upper-class roads and in cities can be likened to the requirement to ride on fun tracks on a hand-powered handcar. Imagine a pumping comedian who will make express and freight trains waiting at the station.

What if there are ten, a hundred, or “dressing” becomes mass entertainment? The railways will lose transport capacity. Likewise, due to cyclists, they are losing the capacity of the road, fortunately not yet completely. One cyclist carrying himself at a speed of fifteen kilometers per hour brakes several cars occupied by, for example, 20 people or trucks, each of which carries 30 tons of goods. A bit of a disparity in efficiency.

Cyclists cannot rule the roads unless we go back to the beginning of the 20th century. Yes, they own one and a half meters of distance from passing cars, without debate. But let’s subject them to a strict ban on moving on sidewalks and pedestrian zones, and let them keep them calm on the roads between November 1 and April 1. In rain, fog, in the dark or in the snow, most drivers do not expect to meet an ironman on the road. Mainly, offenses on the bike must be loaded into the points system, and who does not have a driver’s license, so what point, it’s a fine of 3000 crowns.
