Barack Obama: Student apartment in New York City is for sale – for $ 1.5 million

It was in the 1980s that a young student moved to the Morningside Heights neighborhood of New York City. The man studied political science at the renowned Columbia University – nobody suspected that decades later he would become the first black President of the United States of America. Back then, Barack Obama was just one of many students in the US metropolis.

He apparently lived there like so many others: According to a report from, he shared his four-room apartment at West 114th Street »People« with other students. A realtor who wants to sell the apartment now has pictures of the apartment released. It has since been renovated and redesigned – but the photos still offer an insight into the former life of the former US President.

That was obviously not particularly unusual: The largest room in the apartment, the shared living room, has an area of just under 20 square meters – the other rooms are much smaller. The apartment is not a bargain though. According to the responsible brokerage company, the future buyer will shell out almost 1.5 million US dollars.

Barack Obama recently published his memoirs, which he also spoke about on German television with Markus Lanz. And told about his first night in a completely different place – the White House. Obviously, Obama couldn’t sleep really well, instead he worried. And came to the conclusion: “This is not my house, this is the house of the people, you suddenly sleep in a museum.”

Today the Obamas prefer to be big privately: According to media reports, they bought a luxury property last year. The villa is located on Martha’s Vineyard Island in the US state of Massachusetts and is said to have 640 square meters of living space. The property on which it is located is almost 120,000 square meters – the latter corresponds to more than 16 football fields.
