Washington –
Even the once most powerful man in the world has a Netflix subscription: During the breaks in writing his new book “A Promising Land”, ex-US President Barack Obama distracted himself with television series. “When I needed a break, I would watch“ Better Call Saul ”, for example,” he told Entertainment Weekly magazine in an interview.
He likes “the great characters and the way the series explores the dark side of the American dream.” The lawyer series is a spin-off of the television drama “Breaking Bad”.
Barack Obama also likes to watch the NBA
Obama also liked “The Good Place”. “It’s a clever and sweet combination of comedy and the big philosophical questions.” He also counts the comic book adaptations “Watchmen” and “The Boys” among his favorites. “And of course I always watched the NBA playoffs,” said the 59-year-old.
While writing itself, however, distraction is taboo, revealed Obama. “I can’t listen to music either, because then I hum along and lose my mind.” Despite the concentrated atmosphere, however, he missed one or the other deadline. “I had to call my editor Rachel Klayman quite often and explain to her that the next chapters would be late again.”
“A Promising Land” is Obama’s third book
“A Promising Land” is Obama’s third book and the first of two volumes about his time in the White House. Obama worked on it for almost four years, and the book was published in November.
On the day it was released, it had already sold more than 900,000 times. Obama barely exceeded the sales figures that his wife Michelle’s bestseller (“Becoming: My Story”) had achieved on its 2018 release date.
Barack Obama has had numerous successes with books
Obama already recorded his memories of the early years in Honolulu and Chicago in the book “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” (1995), in 2008 in German under the title “An American Dream.
The Story of My Family ”appeared. He reported on the beginnings of his political career in “The Audacity of Hope”, which was also published in German a year after the original 2006 edition: “Dare to hope. Thoughts on returning to the American Dream ”. (mbr / dpa)
