“Baqué Cycling Team 2023: New Riders, Renewals, and Objectives”

This Thursday, the Baqué Cycling Team 2023 cycling team was presented at Zuhatza Park, headquarters of Cafés Baqué. Present at the event were, among other personalities: Ima Garrastatxu, mayoress of Durango, Iñigo Gutiérrez, marketing director of the coffee company, and Javier García, general manager of the cycling team, which is facing the new course, the 46th uninterrupted in the peloton, with thirteen riders.

In 2022 the team achieved two victories: led by Gorka Sorarra, new professional now in Portuguese cycling and this year they highlight the sixth place of Alex Díaz in the Ascent to Gorla and, above all, the recent participation of the team in the Liège sub’23 and in the Belgian Challenge of the Ardennes. Ander Altuna, In his second year as the team’s main manager, he defines his squad this way: “We practically have two different blocks. One with experience in which is the new elite signing, Erik Martorell, pistard and router, who until now has focused on the track, where he has just finished third in the Canadian Nations Cup and is several times champion of Spain , and that from now on will focus on the road; and in that group we have fourth-year students like Alex Díaz, Mikel Agirrebeitia or Beñat Onaindia. Those are the benchmarks of the team and along with them we have the second-year youngsters who achieved many victories in youth and cadets and who, after a year of acclimatization to the category, have to take a step forward and improve”.

The Gipuzkoan director summarizes his objectives: “We have done the first part of the season with the Euskaldun tests and now the Vueltas are coming, to start with Bidasoa and the Tour de la Mancha in Normandy and the Spanish Cup in Legazpi. We hope that the veterans get good results and that the youngsters can be there in the fight.”
