The Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, was christened in New York on the Hudson River. The event featured a light show made up of 1,000 drones that brought to life popular Disney characters such as Aladdin, Moana and characters from “Coco” and “Haunted Mansion”. The event was accompanied by a live performance by singer and songwriter Jordin Sparks.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, highlighted the importance of Disney stories in his speech: “For more than 100 years, Disney stories have captured the hearts of generations around the world. Since Disney Cruise Line launched in 1998, our ships have also brought the stories out into the world to new audiences. “
Disney Treasure: A ship full of adventures
The Disney Treasure is the third ship in the Triton class and a sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Destiny. It combines the magic of the Disney Parks with innovative onboard offerings. These include the musicals “Moana” and “Coco” as well as a Marvel-inspired dining experience. Highlights include a water adventure world with Mickey Mouse, a “Haunted Mansion” lounge concept and special areas for adults.
“The announcement of Disney Treasure is a milestone in the growth and expansion of Disney Cruise Line,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences.
Fleet and cruise expansion
Disney Treasure’s maiden voyage is scheduled for December 21, 2024. The ship will then sail weeklong cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
With the ship, Disney Cruise Line is implementing the aforementioned fleet expansion, which will include seven new ships by 2031. There are currently six ships in the fleet. By doubling capacity, the company aims to reach an even wider audience.
