Perhaps every driver has ever wanted to say behind them that they should leave more distance, or have any possibility to communicate with others more widely than with lights or a horn. The gestures are not much better and may not be visible from the outside of the car. And the rear display has no car.
Well, none except for one – the Chinese crossover Baojun Yep. It offers a square display on the back of the car that resembles a smart watch. That’s what it’s called – the manufacturer calls it a “car-watch”.
The display is part of a roughly one meter wide and quarter meter high strip between the rear lamps, the design of which can also be changed, probably in the form of replaceable plastic parts. The screen itself is quite large at 300 x 256mm and can display pretty much anything.
The CarNewsChina website lists emoticons, clocks and warnings for other drivers as options. The car company’s idea is that this way young drivers can express themselves better in traffic. In addition to smileys, there is also a warning that the driver behind them is not keeping a safe distance.
The car, which comes from the workshops of SGWM, a Chinese car company in which the American concern General Motors has a stake, was revealed a few days ago and is scheduled to go on sale this year. With a length of less than 3.4 meters, it is a real crumb, but inside it has a battery that should be enough for an electric range of 300 km. Its price should be around 100,000 yuan (approx. 310,000 crowns) and, of course, let’s not count on imports to Europe.
