Eric Zemmour announced on Thursday that he has been banned from Instagram social network. The editorialist and possible presidential candidate sees this ban as an attack on the Gafam who want to “silence” the people.
The Instagram account of editorialist Éric Zemmour was deleted this Thursday, August 19 by the social network platform. The polemicist immediately took to Twitter to denounce a news « censure », adding that the GAFAM (acronym which designates the giants of the web) “Are engaged in a fierce struggle against the peoples who do not want to die”.
Eric Zemmour however affirmed that the GAFAM could censor it, “but that they cannot silence a whole people”. The CNews columnist’s post was widely relayed on Twitter, garnering over 7,000 likes. With his support, Eric Zemmour published a petition to “defend freedom of expression”. More than 26,000 people have already signed.
This morning Instagram made the arbitrary decision to ban my official account. The GAFAM are engaged in a fierce struggle against the peoples who do not want to die. They can censor me, but they cannot silence a whole people. #STOPcensure

Future presidential candidate?
The reasons for this ban by the social network Instagram were not specified by Éric Zemmour. The removal comes as social networks have struggled to fight online hate and disinformation campaigns for several months.
Éric Zemmour had already seen his collaboration with the publisher Alban Michel come to an abrupt end a few weeks ago. The publishing house had justified this decision by highlighting the political ambitions of the polemicist, which casts doubt on a possible presentation in the presidential election of 2022.
