Banks will close on October 1 due to Sheinbaum’s protest

Mexico City. On Tuesday, October 1, the country’s bank branches will suspend their service to the public because that date is a non-business day, like every six years due to the swearing-in of the head of the Federal Executive Branch, reported the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM).

Through a statement, the organization indicated that in accordance with the general provisions of the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), the first day of the tenth month of this year is considered a non-business day for the financial sector, so the banking institutions will suspend their operations to the public.

Next Tuesday Claudia Sheibaum Pardo will be sworn in as president of the Mexican Republic, which is why October 1 is considered a non-working day.

It should be noted that this date is only considered a non-working day when the head of the Federal Executive Branch takes office every six years.

However, banks that offer their services inside commercial stores and supermarkets will open to the public on the aforementioned date, during traditional hours.

In addition to this, in the country there are more than 63,400 ATMs and 53,000 banking correspondents for clients to carry out transactions.

He recalled that they also have digital, electronic and telephone banking, which operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

He pointed out that in the event that the deadline for a payment corresponds to a non-business day, the payment may be made on the following business day, as established by the Law for the Transparency and Regulation of Financial Services.
