Bankruptcy for DIY chain Handyman

ANP

NOS Nieuws•gisteren, 19:17

Retail chain Handyman was declared bankrupt yesterday. This is evident from the register of the Zeeland-West-Brabant court.

The chain for household items and parts, among other things, has existed since 1974. The 38 stores in the Netherlands and the online store will remain open for the time being. In return for Heart of the Netherlands the curator declares that options for a restart are being sought.

About a hundred people work at the company. Handyman also has ten franchise stores, which are not part of the bankruptcy. There are also Handyman branches in Belgium. It is not yet clear what happens with this.

The cause is often higher energy, rental and wage costs. Another factor is that the economy is cooling down and that many entrepreneurs have to repay corona support.
