Youngstorget pub has announced on Facebook that their time as a football pub is over. Saturday January 7th will be their last day open. Was Oslo newspaper who first mentioned the matter.
President Torsi Løkstad says they never took off.
– Corona, and the construction site next to us is the reason. We were involved in renovations and never settled down properly, says Løkstad to Avisa Oslo.
Extensive building work is taking place around the football pub on Youngstorget in connection with the building of the new government quarter.
Refused to show toilet
Løkstad also said in an earlier interview with Avisa Oslo that he would not show the Qatar WC.
– We’d rather risk failure than show a single second of the Qatar WCthe council member told osloavisa.
– At first there was some skepticism about boycotting the toilet. But after presenting how the championship was awarded, how many migrant workers died and showing journalists who have been there and their stories, we made this decision as a team, Løkstad tells Dagbladet.
The football pub chose instead to show old World Cup matches on its screens during the World Cup in Qatar.
– We had an alternative toilet. We support this. We are proud of it, but it hasn’t helped us significantly financially, says Løkstad to Avisa Oslo.
When asked by Avisa Oslo if it was a difficult decision not to show the World Cup, there is a resounding “no”.
– But do you lose a lot of money?
– We do this by not showing the most popular tournament in the world, Løkstad told Avisa Oslo in October.
– It marked me all year
The fight for the truth
Besides being the founder of the bar, Løkstad is also involved in Fotball.TV. I am behind a documentary called “Kampen om sannhenten”.
– The fight for the truth of Fotball.TV is about why the NFF didn’t boycott and the process around it. I have been a part of it and have been very involved in everything to do with Qatar, from corruption to the treatment of migrant workers, Løkstad explains to Dagbladet.
Løkstad then drew up an alternative plan for the Qatar WC. This was something the other people involved in the bar claimed.
Total confusion
Thanks for the support
Ball writes on his Facebook page that he thanks guests who stopped by.
We would like to thank all of you who have touched Ball’s heart for the time, conversations, smiles and tears you have left over these five years. The trip would not have been the same without you, they write on Facebook.
The FA Cup match between Liverpool and Wolverhampton on Saturday will be the last game they broadcast on their screens.
