“Bankrupt Bouwgroep Emmen Receives Interested Parties for Possible Restart”

Several parties have reported to the curator of Bouwgroep Emmen that may want to make a restart with the company. The company was declared bankrupt by a court earlier this week.

The management of the company, which has more than forty employees, filed for bankruptcy themselves. Bankruptcy trustee Rienk de Vries of Trip Advocaten in Assen will be looking into the company’s financial administration in the coming period, but has already established that the debt is ‘considerable’. He has heard that several projects were halted because there was no money left to buy the necessary materials.

Running engine

De Vries wants to try to continue the projects of Bouwgroep Emmen that were still going on in the coming period. “We will certainly investigate those possibilities. For a takeover candidate, it is more attractive to take over a company with the engine still running, than a company that has come to a standstill.”

Bouwgroep Emmen was created at the beginning of last year through a name change of Kuipers & Koers Bouw, which was founded in 2007. The company was mainly active in housing projects in Southeast Drenthe. For example, it built houses in the Emmer district of Delftlanden, the Harm Koningstraat in Coevorden and on the former site of the Christian school in Weiteveen. It also worked on the construction of an indoor swimming pool with a restaurant and reception at the Drentse Lagune holiday park in Westerbork.

Curator De Vries was told by the board of Bouwgroep Emmen that the company got into trouble for several reasons. “Rising costs that could not be passed on due to contracts already concluded, and fewer orders due to the increased interest.” The job at the holiday park in Westerbork also had a negative impact on the position of Bouwgroep Emmen, the curator has stated. The Emmer construction company got into a dispute about payment obligations with the developer of this project.

Bouwgroep Emmen was one of three companies with which the municipality of Emmen concluded an agreement in December 2022 for the implementation of home modifications under the Social Support Act. A spokeswoman for the municipality says that bankruptcy has no consequences for the residents of Emmen who receive such a home adjustment.
