Continuing to popularize Latvian culture, history, philosophical and universal human values in collection coins with a modern interpretation of these values, the Bank of Latvia plans to release a collection coin dedicated to a theme of the artist’s own free choice and invites artists and art students to develop themes and graphic design applications for this coin.
The coin is expected to be released at the end of 2024.
Artists and art students are invited to participate in the competition by submitting works in electronic format until February 1, 2024. Competition regulations and additional information see below.
The works will be evaluated by the coin design commission of the Bank of Latvia, which includes art, design and science experts and representatives of the Bank of Latvia. The winners of the competition will be awarded a one-time bonus: 1st place winner – 2500 euros, 2nd place winner – 1500 euros and 3rd place winner – 1000 euros.
The results of the competition will be published on the bank.lv website by March 15, 2024.

Open competitions for the development of coin designs have also been held before. For example, in the fall of 2023, the Bank of Latvia released a collection coin dedicated to basketball “Latvijas basketbolam 100” (graphic design author Paulis Liepa), created in the framework of such a competition, at the end of 2021 – a collection coin “Brīnumu monēta” (graphic design author Dana Jasinkeviča), while In May 2018 – the “Honey coin” (graphic design author Artūrs Analts), which was recognized as the Coin of the Year in the most prestigious world coin competition Coin of the Year Awards. Also as a result of previous such competitions, interesting and internationally recognized coins were created – “Zeme” (graphic design author Mārcis Kalniņš), “Millennium. Button” coin of the “Millennium” program (graphic design author Gunārs Cīlītis) and “365” coin (graphic design author Paulis Liepa).
