Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Reveals New Route; Enrollment Incentives Announced – NBC Chicago

CHICAGO – Thousands of runners will descend through the streets of downtown Chicago this St. Patrick’s Day weekend as the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle returns after a COVID-induced hiatus.

The race will take place on March 20, but the thousands who participate year after year will find one notable difference: a new route.

The new course, which organizers unveiled Sunday to celebrate a month until race day, will take participants along the Chicago River, providing a breathtaking view of the annual St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

The ride will begin and end in Grant Park as usual, allowing participants to see many familiar sights.

But during miles 1 and 2, runners will be guided along the river and past the newly built Bank of America tower before heading east on Washington Boulevard.

The Shamrock Shuffle has for decades served as the kickoff to Chicago’s racing season, catapulting the city “from a season of hibernation to a season of movement” through its 8K run, according to its website.

But if you prefer to walk or think a shorter distance is better for your speed, there are options too.

“The Mile,” which is scheduled for March 19, will take runners of all levels, from local elites to the next generation of athletes, on a course through Grant Park.

Race day will not just focus on the 8K run.

Walkers are encouraged to head downtown on March 20 for the 2-mile walk. People will take part in a scenic drive along the city’s lakefront, starting and ending in Grant Park as well.

Those unable to attend can join in the excitement without even coming to Chicago. The virtual 8K will take place from March 14-20, giving people the opportunity to participate in the celebration by walking the streets of their own neighborhood.

As race day approaches, organizers offer incentives to encourage participation.

As part of a lightning sale starting Monday, February 21, registration for the in-person 8K race will be $40 until 11:59 pm Central Time on that day. Those interested in signing up can also receive a $10 discount using the discount code “NBC” through March 8.

You can find additional information about the register here.
