“It cannot be possible that they cannot help someone, when they have a problem like this, especially in these days of crisis, that a weight that falls on you is great,” said Insunza.
Faced with these complaints, a federal judge ordered Bank of America to stop using its “fraud complaint filter” to freeze accounts, and to stop closing reports of unauthorized transactions without conducting a thorough investigation, in addition to reopening any complaints previously. closed.
The bank must offer its customers a new option, allowing them to confirm their identity at a bank branch, or by calling the phone behind their card.
Bank of America, for its part, responded in a statement that “during the fraud of billions of dollars stolen from the unemployment system in California, its goal has always been to ensure that legitimate beneficiaries can access their payments. With this agreement, we are committed to providing additional measures to help people who really deserve these benefits, to receive them as soon as possible ”.
The court order indicates that Bank of America must send notifications no later than the next 10 days to customers affected by these cases, with instructions on what steps to take to have their complaints reopened, and must give them a resolution no later than 45 days, as well as crediting the amount in question 10 days after the client verifies their identity.
