The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced Thursday that the race will be held again in 2022 with more than 40,000 participants after the number of runners was reduced in 2021 due to the pandemic.
Runners who entered the unsecured entry draw for the 2022 race were already notified Thursday about this update.
Runners already confirmed for the 2022 race include Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle top-class finalists, time-ranked, international, charity runners, and all those who postponed or canceled their participation in 2021.
“Today we celebrate the commitment to our competitors, the dedication and support of our volunteers, spectators and community members,” said Bank of America Chicago Marathon Director Carey Pinkowski in a statement.
Organizers noted that those interested in participating in next year’s race will be able to join a team of charity runners from one of more than 170 non-profit organizations currently raising funds in 10 different categories.
Runners who sign up with one of those charities will need to raise a minimum of $ 1,750. For more information on those charities and how to register, click here.
So far, the race plans to nearly double the number of runners at last year’s event, in which 26,109 participants crossed the finish line.
Organizers said health and safety measures will be announced in the months leading up to the race.
