The request for a noticeably large transfer drew the attention of the employee at a bank branch on Breddenkampstrasse. What had happened? On Thursday (October 24th) an 86-year-old customer wanted to transfer money abroad. Unusually a lot of money. The bank employee asked what the money was for. The true intention came to light.

Contact for weeks

For weeks, the woman had been contacted via Facebook Messenger by an alleged doctor abroad. She was supposed to loan him money for the treatment of war victims. The doctor would then give her the money – plus a bonus as a thank you – in a box.

The employee immediately suspected fraudulent intent, explained his concerns to the Marler woman and informed the police. Because he didn’t carry out the transfer, he was able to prevent something worse from happening – and the senior citizen kept her money. There is no information about the amount required.

As the police further report, this case unfortunately shows once again that fraudsters come up with a wide variety of scams. Older people in particular are often targeted. The police publish further information on the subject of “fraud” and how you can protect yourself on the website:
