The Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM) reported that, during 2021, Mexican banking has shown greater dynamism, which represents a key sign of economic recovery.
Since the second quarter of the year, requests for bank credit have increased, although, they point out, it still does not reach the levels registered until before the pandemic.
Credit cards managed to bill 970 billion pesos between January and October, which represented 28.2% more than the same period of the previous year.
The ABM detailed that, with September data, the NPL Index of Mexico stood at 2.3%, registering better levels than Brazil, France, Spain O Italy.
Meanwhile, with data for August, the Index of Capitalization –Which represents the financial strength of an institution to withstand unexpected losses– stood at 18.4%, above United States, Canada, Spain and China.
Despite the progress made in banking in Mexico, the president of the ABM, Daniel Becker FeldmanHe pointed out that the country needs more investment to trigger greater long-term economic growth.
