Bank Al-Maghrib Report: Industry Business Climate in Q1 2023

The general business climate in the industry would have been normal according to 71% of companies and unfavorable according to 26% of them in the first quarter of 2023, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

These proportions are respectively 79% and 17% in the textile and leather sector, 76% and 21% in the food industry and 60% and 33% in mechanics and metallurgy. With regard to the supply conditions, they would have been normal according to 60% of the industrialists and difficult for 40% of them, continues the same source.

As for the number of employees employed, they would have stagnated during the last three months. A situation that should not change over the next three months, notes the same source.

In Q1 2023, unit production costs would have increased in all branches of activity except electrical and electronics, where they would have rather stagnated. Moreover, the cash position would have been described as normal by 83% of companies and difficult by 16% of them.

For its part, access to bank financing would have been described as normal by almost all manufacturers in all branches with the exception of textiles and leather where 21% of companies describe it as difficult.
