Banjarmasin Takes Steps to Combat Rising Dengue Cases Amid Erratic Weather

The spread of dengue cases is quite high this year due to the unpredictable weather, namely, sometimes it’s hot sometimes it rains which causes the mosquito breeding rate to be quite high

Banjarmasin (ANTARA) –

The Municipal Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan is taking steps to anticipate a spike in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) with counseling and a movement to clean up mosquito nests.

Head of the Banjarmasin City Health Office, South Kalimantan, M Ramadhan in Banjarmasin, Thursday, stated that this movement must be carried out intensively because dengue cases in this city continue to rise.

In fact, he said, the number of cases of the disease caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito during the six months this year has exceeded the number of cases last year.

According to him, the number of dengue cases in 2022 was 62 people who were infected with the dengue virus, but in mid-2023 it had reached 64 cases.

“Even this year, three dengue patients have died,” said M Ramadhan.

He stated, the spread of dengue cases was quite high this year due to the erratic weather, namely sometimes it was hot and sometimes it rained which caused the mosquito breeding rate to be quite high.

Moreover, he said, Banjarmasin is a lowland and swamp area, so waterlogging can easily occur.

According to his records, the most cases of dengue for the past half year were in the Sungai Andai Village area, North Banjarmasin.

“There are 10 dengue cases in the Andai River area, this is the highest. That’s why we held the ASEAN Dengue Day movement yesterday in that area,” he said.

Ramadhan continues to remind and educate the public to continue implementing 5M to tackle the growth of larvae from the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
