Banjarmasin (ANTARA) –
The municipal government of Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan is raising awareness of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) towards the end of the year.
Banjarmasin City Health Service Chief Muhammad Ramadhan in Banjarmasin on Wednesday revealed that dengue cases in late 2022 have the potential to increase.
“This December there were 4 cases and they are still being treated. The detection was from the puskesmas,” he said.
According to him, the current weather, which sometimes rains and then is accompanied by heat, causes the Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads the dengue virus to grow higher.
“So everyone needs to increase their vigilance, keep away objects that may contain water as breeding grounds for DHF mosquitoes,” he said.
The people of Banjarmasin need to be aware of the breeding of dengue mosquitoes, Ramadhan said, because there have been 60 cases so far this year.
“Even two deaths this year, don’t let them go up again,” he said.
He also said that the number of dengue cases this year has increased significantly from last year, which was just 11 cases.
To deal with the worsening of this DHF case, Ramadhan said, his party continues to spread awareness to the public, including how to quickly handle if someone is infected with the DHF virus.
Among the symptoms of DHF, Ramadhan said, are sudden high fever, headache symptoms, pain behind the eyeballs and stomach pain.
“What is easier to know is the appearance of rashes or red spots on the body. If you have these signs, take them to the hospital or health center immediately,” she explained.
To deal with dengue mosquitoes, implement 5M, i.e. empty the bathtub, close the water tank and bury used items that could become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
As well as throw away used cans and put betta fish or abbot powder in every puddle.
