“It tastes really fantastic. It’s a home victory after a long time, moreover in front of a fantastic backdrop and after an excellent performance. There is nothing to criticize about this match,” smiled the 24-year-old player who transferred to Baník from Žilina in the winter.
Did you believe in the loops in the lime, or did you see no other way to the shot?
At first I had the idea to shoot the ball into the small goal because Tankis (Tanko) was running there, or try a shot cross that could bounce to someone. But at the last moment, I noticed that the defender could block it, so I stuck the ball and already had a clear goal to go to the goal.
Did you celebrate the goal with cool somersaults, is it your traditional celebration, or did you perform an acrobatic trick because it was the first goal in the Baník jersey?
I do, but I haven’t gotten around to it for a long time because I haven’t been able to score for a long time. So I was a little worried about how it would turn out. (laughs) We’ll see if there are a lot of goals, so I won’t keep repeating it, so it’s not corny. But at least I wanted to enjoy the first goal for Baník like this.
Can you tell us what your tasks were against Teplice?
I’m a speed type, that’s known about me, so we wanted to take advantage of the fact that I can get to the front. I can run repeatedly, but I still need to play with my teammates a little more. They also have to be more aware that I’m there. We talked about it with Frýda (Michal Frydrych) and he tried it several times.
Abdullahi Tanko scored the first goal in the 6th minute. Did it play better after a great start to the match?
Yes, it always helps. But it can also be harmful. Maybe we had a bit of a dull passage after that goal. But it was about five minutes, otherwise we had the whole match under our own direction.

The first three goals came after individual actions and the courage to go one on one. Is this the path that coach Pavel Hapal wants you to take?
From the moment I came to Baník, I have seen in training that the quality of these solutions here is great. That’s why it didn’t surprise me at all and it’s one of the ways to score a goal.
Were you under pressure because you hadn’t won at home for a long time, or did you go into the match against Teplice with a clear head?
There was definitely some pressure, but I personally try not to think too much about such things. I always looked forward to a home game, even if we didn’t do well. The performances were not bad, maybe we were a little unlucky, but we don’t want to make excuses for that. Today we caught it by the scruff of the neck!
Against Teplice you played with three defenders, which for you personally meant free time on the right side of the lineup. Does it suit you the best?
It sure suits me when I’m on the line. I’m just used to it. I benefit from my speed, ferocity and the fact that I want to play one-on-one. That’s why it shows me a little more there than when I’m kind of drowning in the middle of the field. But football is about being able to play in multiple positions. So wherever I am needed, I will try to give everything there.
When did you start to suspect that you might finally be in the foundation?
About two days before the game. I admit I didn’t get much sleep that night. Not because the time was moving, but I was… not even nervous, more fired up. Yesterday around eight o’clock in the evening, I thought to myself: Ku…, let’s play. (laughter)
How did you perceive the fact that you could not win seven games at home, and yet you were within reach of fourth place before the match with Teplice?
Those seven matches are now in the past. The fact that we are fourth was decided by the away games that worked for us. We managed to get some points from the tough games, so the fourth place is justified.
During the match with Teplice, the club organized an event, thanks to which the price of beer in the stadium dropped by three crowns after each goal scored. I assume you haven’t lowered the price of beer yet with your round, have you?
I guess I haven’t succeeded yet. (laughs) It was a great idea. I’ll treat myself to one today too.
Did you see it as an incentive to score as many goals as possible so the fans could have cheaper beer?
I only found out now. I didn’t know it before the match and I didn’t notice it during the match. But if I had known about it, I would have definitely tried to score another goal so that the fans could have beer as cheaply as possible. (laughter)
You have a Route 66 tattoo on your arm, the same number on your back. Is it related?
Exactly, not at all. But I’m a bit of a fan of Alexander Trent-Arnold (Liverpool England defender) who wears it too. It’s a bit of a coincidence that I have that number. When I came to the Žilina club, I wanted that number, but I didn’t tell anyone, but they still assigned it to me there. I took it as fate and I’m not changing it.
