Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned, while thousands of protesters stormed the prime minister’s residence in Dhaka.
Hasina boarded a military helicopter bound for India, according to information from Prothom Alo Daily.
Shortly before she resigned, one of her advisers told AFP that a resignation was “possible”, a month after the start of anti-government protests in which at least 300 protesters have been killed.

At the same time, the prime minister’s son appeals to the security forces of Bangladesh to prevent any seizure of power. The Minister of Justice stated that “the situation is very volatile. What’s going on, I don’t even know.”
Tear gas and clashes
The police used tear gas and plastic bullets to break up a gathering of tens of thousands of citizens, who demanded the resignation of the prime minister, reports Reuters.
In July, at least 150 people died and around 10,000 were arrested in riots that broke out on the sidelines of protests led by student groups. The protests were against restrictions on public sector recruitment.

The next day in Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s army chief, General Waqar-uz-Saman, announced in a televised address that he would “form an interim government” after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned. She has already left the country and was transferred to India.
“We will form a provisional government,” the general said.
CNN-News18 reported that the former prime minister landed a short while ago in the northeastern Indian city of Agartala.
According to Intelligence sources, India will offer safe passage to Sheikh Hasina.
