Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Face Off in ODI World Cup with 280 Run Target

Bangladesh set a target of 280 runs to win the ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka. After losing the toss and batting, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 279 runs in 49.3 overs. Sri Lanka was led from the front by Charit Asalanka who scored a century. The player was dismissed after scoring 108 runs off 105 balls.

Other top scorers for Lanka are opener Pathum Nisanga (41 off 36 balls), Sadira Samarawickrama (41 off 42 balls), Dhananjaya D’Silva (34 off 36 balls) and Mahish Theeksna (22 off 31 balls). Sri Lanka lost opener Kushal Perera at the start and Nisanga and captain Mendis took the lead. With the score at 66, Mendis was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan.

Pathum, Nisanga and Samarawickrama who came after him shone for Lanka, but Angelo Mathews returned after time out. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan demanded that Mathews be dismissed as he was not ready to bat within the allotted time. The umpire then accepted this.

Asalanka completed his century in 101 balls. Asalanka was dismissed by Litan Das off Tanzim Hasan. Tansim Hasan took three wickets for Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam took two wickets each.
