KOMPAS.com – Residents of Bandung City, West Java, were requested keep trash at home respectively until Sunday (27/8/2023).
The request was conveyed by the Bandung Mayor’s Daily Executor (Plh), Ema Sumarna.
This was the aftermath of the fire that hit the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Cipatat District, West Bandung Regency (KBB), since last week.
That way, Ema hopes, there will be no piles of garbage in temporary disposal sites (TPS).
“With all humility to the citizens, (the government) has not been able to serve as it should,” said Ema, Friday (25/8/2023).
“Several TPS have been overloaded, so we are only advising them to be wise and not aggressive in producing waste according to the municipal government’s capacity. I have asked the sub-district and urban heads to socialize this appeal,” he continued.
Ema again encouraged the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) to immediately open the Legoknangka TPA in Bandung Regency.
“Actually, the garbage problem will be solved regionally when Legoknangka is operational. That is our hope and our prayer that there will be no garbage piled up on the streets,” said Ema.
TPA Sarimukti fire extinguishing process
Regarding the fire that hit TPA SarimuktiGovernor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil said, a number of hotspots have now been successfully extinguished.
“(Fire at TPA) Sarimukti as of today: The situation is better than yesterday, many spots have been extinguished,” said Ridwan Kamil, Friday (25/8/2023).
The man who is familiarly called Emil added that efforts to extinguish the fire would continue by deploying 12 fire trucks and using water with a special mixture of ingredients to facilitate the extinguishing process.
“Because we know that this pile of garbage contains methane gas which is hot and can cause a fire if there is oxygen. So the water is not ordinary H2O, but something very special has been mixed with it,” he said.
To prevent waste accumulation in the Greater Bandung area, Emil said, his party would provide a temporary urban waste storage location not far from the Sarimukti TPA.
“So for the past two days, cities and regencies affected (the Sarimukti landfill fire) are asked to adjust. As early as Sunday or as late as Monday morning, they can dispose of trash normally,” he explained.
He also appealed to all West Java residents to get used to reducing or being wise in producing waste.
“Don’t wait for an emergency. Reducing and managing waste independently is better,” said Emil.
“Because we know that not all environmental systems are capable of dealing with waste production in cities and regencies,” he concluded.
