Bandung – School holidays are almost over. But before it ended, the children in Bandung and their parents still had time to spend together. One of them is participating in astronomy-themed activities.
The activity which was held by the Imah Noong Observatory and Musalatory lasted for 7 days since last week. Sunday (16/7/2023) will be the last day of activities at one of the malls in the city of Bandung.
The participants in the activity, which was divided into two agendas, starting from the practice of hunting astronomical phenomena and mini-class astronomy, caught the attention of the children. They are curious about astronomical objects and phenomena that they usually rarely see directly.
“So this is one of Imah Noong’s projects to bring astronomy closer to children, especially when in public areas. One of them is that we are working with a mall in the city of Bandung,” said Imah Noong Observatory and Musalator Project Manager, Mizwala Aulia Wulandari to DetikJabar, Sunday (7/16/2023).
In practical activities, the committee provides telescopes that can be used by participants to observe the sun, from 12.00 to 13.30 WIB.
“So we keep the telescope in the mall, later participants can try it right away. Apart from that, there is also a mini astronomy class from 4 to 5 pm. There the children can ask questions about astronomy. And the enthusiasm is extraordinary,” said Mizwala.
Another researcher from the Imah Noong Observatory, Arief Hidayat Adam, said that on Saturday (15/7/2023) evening, participants had the opportunity to hunt for the constellations and zodiac from the rooftop of the mall where the activity was held.
“Then what’s special, on Saturday night we do a zodiac hunt, from 7 to half past 9 in the evening. That’s what we’re really hunting for, because the sky is covered with clouds, if there’s a little light we can immediately use it to see the constellations,” said Arief.
“There we also explain about this constellation or zodiac. Because it used to be used by ancient people to help their lives,” he added.
The activity, which was first held, was successful in attracting and exploring the interests of young children in Bandung who turned out to be very big in the world of astronomy.
“We were surprised that the interest was so great, there was even one of the children from Antapani, if I’m not mistaken, he came every day from day one to today. His parents also confided in him, they were very happy because they had an alternative to fill their child’s vacation time,” said Arief.
