Epic Games, which develops Fortnite, Unreal or Gears of War bought it a Bandcampet.
Ethan Diamond, CEO and co-founder of Bandcamp, announced the news in a comment posted on the Bandcamp blog. He wrote that Bandcamp will continue to operate as a stand-alone marketplace and music community and will continue to run the company.
It also assured everyone that products and services would not change. It also means the popular Bandcamp Fridays campaign will remain, with the platform giving up its commission to keep more money with the artists. In 2020, Bandcamp Fridays raised $ 40 million for musicians.
What’s changing?
Of course, the appearance of the new owner obviously doesn’t mean nothing would change, but Diamond says working together is more about strategy than wanting to change the product.
Behind the scenes, however, we work with Epic to expand internationally and advance development in Bandcamp, from basics such as our album pages, mobile apps, merchandise tools, payment system, and search and discovery features. all the way to newer initiatives such as vinyl record production and live streaming services
Diamond explained.
