Bandai Namco to spend 115 million euros on Metaverse project

Bandai Namco has announced that it plans to create an “IP Metaverse” for their library of games. The company is going to spend 15 billion yen on the project.

VideoGamesChronicle was the first to mention the metaverse project. Bandai Namco has three main goals for the project: connecting the company with fans of the games, increasing the value of Bandai Namco IPS and connecting the IPS together in an overarching universe known as the “all BANDAI NAMCO concept.”

Bandai Namco further plans to invest 25 billion yen (about 200 million euros) to “increase the value of their IP.”That is possible with the creation of a new IP, IP projects and innovation.

The metaverse is a popular term in tech and entertainment and stands for a virtual world where people interact with each other and brands. Several large companies are playing with the idea. Disney, Epic Games, Microsoft, Facebook and Square Enix have already talked about their own metaverse.

“Through the IP Metaverse, we create communities of Bandai Namco and fans,” Bandai Namco shared during a presentation to investors. “With these communities and content , we build a deep, broad and versatile connection that will last a long time. We also focus on the quality of that connection. In this way we will maximize the value of our IP in the medium and long term.”

Bandai Namco’S IP consists of Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Pac-Man, Gundam, Dragon Ball, Soul Calibur, Katamari and classic games like Dig-Dug and Galaga.

“Our strength lies in the ability to make connections in digital and physical elements,” said Bandai Namco. The 15 billion yen is used to build a “data foundation (data universe) and the money goes to “content development.”

Bandai Namco concluded the plans by indicating that it realizes that the concept is one of the three main strategies for the digital department.
