Band Sergeant Steel release new album

Upper Austria. The Upper Austrian hard rock band Sergeant Steel has released their fourth studio album. According to the band, “Truck Tales” pays homage to truckers and was inspired by the experiences of the members in America.

Five years after the last album, the Upper Austrian band Sergeant Steel is back with a new album. “Truck Tales” was completed in the previous year, but was published in early 2021. “As with pretty much every band on this planet, the pandemic thwarted our plans. We had to put aside the original plans for the release of the new album, ”explains singer Phil Vanderkill.

“Lots of love for detail”

The trip to the USA, however, worked out to work with Michael Wagener (producer of Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and other artists). “Truck Tales pays homage to all truckers and those who want to become one. Trucker clichés and life “on the road”, especially in America’s southern states, and the much-vaunted “simple men” have always fascinated us. We produced a soundtrack for it. Musically we stayed true to ourselves: Good, old, classic hard rock with great attention to detail and, above all, very varied, ”reveals Jack Power from Sergeant Steel. Musically, the band was rooted in the 1970s, which is how they shaped Queen and Aerosmith. “But other artists, with whom we would not be associated, have shaped us: Our singer is totally taken with Yung Hurn’s expressive dance, our second guitarist loves the EAV and I like to be inspired by Helge Schneider,” adds Jack Power. The band love to spend hours tinkering with songs, trying out new things and experimenting. Studio work is always something special for her.

“We don’t enjoy online concerts”

The same applies to appearances that are currently not possible. In order to know whether enough notice would be taken of them without appearances, Sergeant Steel released the song “Fight Fire With Fire” as a pre-release single in autumn 2020. Fortunately, it worked and “Truck Tales” was added. But they refrain from virtual concerts. “We don’t enjoy online concerts because we can set up a bowling club right away. The most important thing about a concert is the interaction with the audience. That’s the reason why we’re on stage at all. You can’t do that via the web, ”says Jack Power. Instead, they prefer to pursue other plans, such as working on new songs. Plan B would last until 2065, but be in good spirits, says Jack Power with a smile.

Sergeant Steel were founded in Upper Austria in 2007. Today the band can look back on four worldwide albums, the official club anthem of the first division ice hockey team EHC Black Wings Linz as well as many performances (including Burg Clam, concert evening in Vienna).
