Title: Band Randale Delights Students at Josefschule with Special Concert
Date: June 20, 2023
The support association of the Josef School recently organized a special event to bring joy to the children amidst the challenges posed by the Corona years. The management team, comprising Katharina Schmelzer, Sonja Füchtenhans, Cornelia Schulte-Beckhausen, Nadja Barby, Laura Laukötter, and Jacqeline Micheel, came up with a brilliant idea to end the school year on a high note – a concert by the popular band Randale at the Josefschule.
When the management team presented the idea to headmaster Anja Giesbertz, she immediately expressed her enthusiasm and support. The association generously offered to cover the costs for the band, ensuring that the event could be enjoyed by all the students.
On the day of the concert, more than 200 children were filled with excitement as they entered the school auditorium and saw the stage adorned with musical instruments. The lead singer of Randale, Jochen, engaged the kids by teaching them how to dance to reggae and ska music. Initially, the older children were a bit reserved, but by the second chorus, they couldn’t resist joining in the fun on the dance floor.
In a conversation with us, Jochen Vahle, the band’s singer, emphasized the significance of school concerts like this. He stated, “Here we reach children who we would not reach at other (including public) concerts. In this way, we achieve cultural participation for everyone.” It is evident that Randale’s mission of creating rock and punk music suitable for families has been successful for the past 19 years.
Despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic, Randale continued to spread their music and joy. They performed for 1,200 birthday children, held concerts under strict Corona conditions, and even toured the gardens of 140 daycare centers. Their dedication to their mission is truly commendable. In May, they released their latest album, “Sandkastenrocker.”
During the one-hour concert at Josefschule, not only the children but also the teachers were delighted by the musical experience. After enduring a long period of restrictions, the informal interaction and joyous atmosphere on the dance floor were particularly heartwarming.
Jochen expressed his wish for the children, saying, “Today should be the main subject!” Following the concert, the students returned to their classes to collect their certificates, ending the day on a high note.
