Two very talented young actors lead the WWII series for Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.
News about Band of Brothers– in The Pacific-successor Masters of the Air are sparse, but today at least two of the protagonists have been officially announced: Austin Butler and Callum Turner.
The Apple miniseries marks the third time that Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks will be producing a full-scale World War II series. Band of Brothers in The Pacific together accounted for 15 Emmy Awards.
We know Austin Butler from his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but he will no doubt break through to the wider public later this year as Elvis Presley in a Baz Luhrman biopic (also starring Tom Hanks!). We know Turner from, among others Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. He is currently working on the third part of that film series. In Masters of the Air Butler plays Major Gale Cleven and Turner plays Major John Egan.
A platform for acting talent
The casting of young stars like Butler and Turner is in keeping with the tradition of Hanks and Spielberg’s previous productions. So we saw in Band of Brothers actors like Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender and Simon Pegg before they were movie stars and we saw in The Pacific Among others the relatively unknown Rami Malek and Jon Bernthal at that time.
It is still unclear when we will Masters of the Air can expect on Apple TV +, but we’re betting on sometime in 2022.
