Pepe Lienhard is the biggest Swiss band leader. He will be 75 on March 23 and is full of energy. Musician Pino Gasparini is one day older than his friend, with whom he has been successfully on stage for over 50 years. At VIEW, they reveal what they have learned in their lives, what they regret, what they appreciate about each other, but what also annoys each other.

Pepe Lienhard
Five things I’ve learned in my life:
1. Man must always be ready to seize an opportunity that comes by and meet the requirements.
We have always tried to deliver top quality, which has proven itself over the years.
2. Respect for the audience. I learned that from Udo Jürgens. He took every concert goer seriously.
3. To find a balance to the sometimes superficial show business in nature and with animals. That always grounded me.
4. Tolerance, appreciation and generosity. This attitude has always been right for me, even if it wasn’t always to my advantage.
5. An honest and loving partnership is the indispensable basis for me to be happy and balanced.–
Five things I regret:
1. That my father was no longer allowed to experience my professional success as a musician. I couldn’t influence that, but I’m still sorry today.
2. I should have read through some contracts carefully before signing them.
3. Traveling to Bhutan has always been a wish of mine because of the incredible fauna and flora. But the land is too high; Unfortunately, I can’t take the altitude as well as I used to.
4. To drop out of the Spanish course. Learning the language better is still on my bucket list today. We like to travel to Central and South America. It’s just great when you can talk to the locals in their language.
5. That I gave away my first saxophone, which my mother gave me for Christmas 1957.–
What I like about Pino:
His loyalty for over 50 years in every relationship. And his professional attitude. He is always on time, always perfectly prepared and fully committed.–
What annoys me about Pino:
There is little to complain about Pino. The only thing that is a bit annoying sometimes: Pino goes home immediately after every gig and doesn’t hang out with us a little longer.–
Pino Gasparini
Five things I’ve learned in my life:
1. It took a long time, but I’ve finally become more patient while driving.
2. That life is unpredictable. I lost my older brother to serious cancer.
3. How important it is to maintain long-term friendships is shown all the more in times of Corona.
4. That there is true love and kinship.
5. How important it is to consciously and fully enjoy beautiful moments – ideally with a glass of champagne in hand.–
Five things I regret:
1. Never having trained with Roger Federer.
2. That I gave up skiing and cross-country skiing.
3. That I didn’t keep in touch with my family enough. Because of my job, that wasn’t always possible.
4. That I have not met certain people who are important to me before.
5. That I haven’t bought a bigger bed yet – because I usually wake up on the edge of the bed in the morning, despite a size of 1.80 x 2 m.–
What I appreciate about Pepe:
His professionalism over the years. He is always there for you when the going gets tough.
The fresh eggs from Pepe’s own chickens for breakfast in the morning.–
What annoys me about Pepe:
That he’s a day younger than me. I look younger for that …
Professionally he is always on time, but in my private life I always have to wait for him.–
On Tuesday, March 23rd, Pepe Lienhard celebrates his 75th birthday at Blick TV. In the 45-minute live stream “Happy Birthday Pepe” from 8 p.m. he plays highlights from his repertoire (including “Swiss Lady”), numbers that he played with Udo Jürgens, and the most beautiful songs by Frank Sinatra.
