Banco Bci Announces Changes to Open Sky and Puntos Bci Programs: Reduction in Accumulation and Validity of Rewards

Banco Bci began to inform its customers that As of August 17, 2023, the conditions of the Open Sky and Puntos Bci programs will change.

In simple, it is a reduction in the percentage of accumulation of weights or points —according to each program— for purchases made with credit cards issued by Bci as of August. also reported the decrease in the validity of the rewards obtained by customerswith six months less for each program.

The measure is one more consequence of the decrease in exchange rates. What are they? Its about most important component of the commission that businesses must pay each time a customer makes purchases with cards through the “little machines” (POS) or online payment gateways.

If the percentage is lower by decision of the authority —as it was in this case, through a Committee that was created by law—, the issuers end up transferring this lower margin that they receive through a reduction in benefits. The other banks and commercial houses could adopt similar measures before October 26, the date on which 6 months have passed since the resolution was published in the Official Gazette on the new exchange rates.

The measures adopted by Bci refer to exclusively to national purchases, maintaining the factor of 1% for international ones in both programs. For now, no changes to the Bci AAdvantage program have been announced that allows the accumulation of miles to be used on American Airlines.

Changes in the Bci OpenSky program

In the case of credit cards linked to Open Skyan announcement was made decrease in the accumulation of “weights”. This benefit allows you to accumulate them and then use them as a co-payment in airlines, travel agencies, hotels and rent a car. The users of the program highlight the flexibility to occupy the benefits in the national and international provider that they deem convenient, and the good accumulation rate that the program offered (until now).

The most affected are customers with Visa Gold and Mastercard Gold cards, who will see their accumulation rate reduced by 50%. If until now they obtained 1% of all purchases made with their cards as a reward, now they will only get 0.5%.

Other customers harmed by the change are those who have Platinum cards associated with the Visa and Mastercard brands. If until now they accumulated 1.5% of each purchase, from August 17 they will only be able to obtain 0.8%, which represents a decrease of 46.6%.

customers with Visa Signature and Mastercard Black will see a 33% drop, going from 1.5% of each purchase to 1.0%, a percentage considered good in current times.
