The Banc de Sang i Teixits de Balears (Blood and Tissue Bank of the Balearic Islands) has made an urgent appeal to the public to replenish blood reserves, particularly blood groups 0+, 0-, A- and B+, necessary to ensure regular blood supply medical care and preparation for possible emergency situations are essential.
Currently, reserves are very low with only 566 units of blood, while approximately 1,000 donations are needed to meet weekly needs, a press release said.
The organization emphasized that a single blood donation can help up to three different people thanks to the platelets and red blood cells obtained. The transfusions are intended for the treatment of patients with chronic diseases, for people who require surgery and for unforeseen events such as accidents or medical emergencies.
The Blood and Tissue Bank has a donation center in Palma, located on Calle Rosselló y Cazador, open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There are also mobile donation points on the various islands. To make an appointment, you can visit the website, which also updates donation locations and opening hours.
