The city council recently approved the budget for the coming year. In total, the financial package amounts to a good 400 million euros. Wolfgang Reichmann, first chairman of the city association for sports: “When we asked, the administration told us that the budget had earmarked 7,000 euros for honoring athletes. We are pleased to note this, after the popular award was canceled this year due to a lack of funds. That’s roughly what it was, anyway, because we heard different statements when we asked from the town hall in the summer. We are therefore all the more pleased that the popular award will take place again next year. On behalf of the city association, I would like to thank Mayor Andreas Starke, Green Bamberg, the SPD, the CSU, Bamberg’s independent citizens as well as Karin Einwag and Claudia John. They responded to our request in the summer and promised support in this matter. This is a commitment to sport. This is probably not that important to the Bamberg Citizens Block, Bamberger Mitte, Volt, ÖDP, AfD, FDP, The Party and The Left. At least they didn’t respond to our questions. Perhaps some of this group will have approved the budget. But we still don’t know her attitude towards sport. So be it. Others have come forward for this, for which we are very grateful.”
In addition to the money for the sports award, Reichmann continued, the budget includes, among other things, 40,000 euros as investment cost subsidies for club-owned sports facilities and 175,000 euros for maintenance measures at sports facilities and 175,000 euros for lawn maintenance. Wolfgang Reichmann: “The sports work program includes, among other things, the start of the renovation of the Fuchspark Stadium. The Office for Education, Schools and Sport told us all of this in response to our request. What some political circles cannot do, namely responding to inquiries, can be done all the more reliably by the administration. Many thanks at this point.” The final decision on the budget will now be made by the responsible supervisory authority of the city of Bamberg. This is the government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth, “which still has to approve the financial package,” explains Wolfgang Reichmann in conclusion.
