Baltic poets arrive in Riga for the fifth cooling workshop / Day organized by Latvian Literature

Poets Lote Vilma Vītiņa, Krista Anna Belševica, Ēriks Naivo and Kirils Ēcis from Latvia, Trīna Paja will take part in the workshop (Triin Paja) and Christian Haljak (Kristjan Haljak) from Estonia, as well as Dovile Kusminskaite (Dovilė Kuzminskaitė) and Aistis Žekevičius from Lithuania. Eight young writers will work for a week under the guidance of the poet Ivars Šteinbergs.

Working on cooling, being physically in the same room with the author of the poetry, gives an opportunity to discuss and promptly solve problems that have arisen during translation. The goal of the organizers this year was to invite young poets to the workshop to encourage them to start chilling as well.

“For young poets, the workshop will bring new translation experiences and new refinements to the languages of neighboring countries. The workshop was originally planned as part of Cool forum, which was to take place in a literary journal point during the festival in May. The organizers of the festival had chosen the authors of the Baltic States as the focus of this year, therefore we also invited poets from Lithuania and Estonia to the workshop. As all events were canceled due to the pandemic in May, we moved the workshop to the autumn and included the already traditional public cooling reading in the festival. Poetry days program, “tells the platform Latvian Literature representative of Utah Pie.

At the end of the workshop, everyone is invited on September 11 at 18 In Noah, AB Dam 2, to attend the poets’ readings free of charge, where you will have the opportunity to hear the results of their week-long work. The event is part of the festival Poetry days programs.
