Baltic foreign ministers expressed support for Ukraine

The foreign ministers of Estonia and Latvia have already commented on the decree to start the mobilization in Russia.

The foreign ministers of Latvia and Estonia reacted to the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin of partial mobilization and threats to the use of nuclear weapons. They posted the relevant statements on their Twitter accounts.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics has assured that Latvia and the whole of Europe will support Ukraine.

“We must not succumb to blackmail and we must support Ukraine as much as possible. Russia is now the same threat to peace in Europe and the whole world as Nazi Germany was in the last century,” he replied.

Latvia, for security reasons, will not issue humanitarian visas to Russians fleeing forced mobilization, he added.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu believes the Kremlin chief’s act is “panic and stupid”.

“As a result, even more people and military equipment will be embroiled in a genocidal war against Ukraine. This is a desperate, panicked and stupid step. Estonia and Europe will support Ukraine,” he said.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has not yet commented on Putin’s latest statements, but first reacted to the Kremlin’s intentions to annex the occupied territories of Ukraine after a pseudo-referendum.

“In 1940, an illegitimate Russian referendum established a decade of terror, submission and poverty for my country. That’s all I want to say about illegal Russian referendums,” he said.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace believes breaking a previous promise not to mobilize is recognition of the collapse of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Note that Putin on Wednesday morning, 21 September announced the mobilization in the Russian Federation.
