The name day of St. Balázs and the miracles of the bishop-turned-martyr are commemorated on February 3 in Bakonykúti. On this occasion, a singing mass will be held at the local Catholic church at 3 p.m. At Balázsola, the priests welcome the faithful with crossed candles, because the patron saint also saved a drowning child that way.
With the help of almsgiving, the saint’s blessing protects the faithful from diseases, especially children, but the intercession of the patron saint can also come in handy when chasing away evil and birds, in addition, people who grow wheat and corn, keep animals, and even apple growers can turn to St. Balázs.
The name day set for February 3 is also an important date for a folk observation, because according to a belief, if it rains on this day, the ice will destroy the crops at the beginning of summer.
