The volunteers of the association of blood donors of Balma and Pin-Balma (ADSB) are mobilized today Friday to carry out their summer blood collection in the multipurpose room of the avenue des Arènes. “Today, the blood reserves in Occitania are around 8,000 bags, whereas 9,000 are needed permanently”, underlines Patrice Verlhiac, member of the ADSB office. The ADSB’s contribution has made it possible to collect three hundred and forty-eight bags since the beginning of the year. To be between 18 and 70 years old, to be in good health and to weigh more than 50 kg are the first conditions to be met in order to donate blood. However, certain medical treatments, or even recent stays in countries where malaria is endemic, do not allow this to be done. Collections are supervised by EFS doctors, who receive the volunteers individually before the collection.
