A video showing the alleged destruction of ballots cast for Donald Trump was created by Russia, according to US authorities. The clip had been distributed in recent days on the online platform X of the tech billionaire and Trump supporter Elon Musk, among others. Russia is trying to raise doubts about the legitimacy of the US elections and divide Americans, the FBI said.
In the video, a person’s hands can be seen ripping open envelopes and inspecting the ballots inside. The votes cast for Trump are then torn up and the ex-president is insulted.
The video was supposedly taken in Bucks County in the embattled US state of Pennsylvania – but the local election authority immediately pointed out that both the envelopes and the ballot papers did not correspond to those actually used.

The FBI and Secret Service Coordinator Avril Haines’ office believe the video was created by “Russian actors” and distributed online. They referred to information available to them and previous activities. Russia is trying to raise doubts about the legitimacy of the US elections and divide Americans.
