Ballon d’Or 2022 will take place tonight. Who is the best player to win the Ballon d’Or?
The Ballon d’Or is also held this year or the second in a row after the Covid-19 pandemic. For last year’s edition, Lionel Messi became the winner after leading Argentina to the 2021 Copa America champion.
Unfortunately, there will be no Messi this year and this will be the first time he has been absent from the Ballon d’Or since 2005. Messi’s poor performance with Paris Saint-Germain last season was the reason.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains on the list of 30 candidates announced on 12 August. The favorites to ascend Messi’s throne are Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema.
Benzema scored 44 goals last season which made him the top scorer in La Liga (27 goals) and Champions League (15 goals). Benzema led Real Madrid to win La Liga and the Champions League and France to win the UEFA Nations League.
Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and Sadio Mane are said to be strong competitors for Benzema. Mane last season gifted Liverpool two titles and helped Senegal win the Africa Cup for the first time, while Lewandowski led Bayern to the Bundesliga title.
In addition to the Golden Ball, there will also be announcements of the winners of the Kopa Trophy, Yashin Trophy, Socrates Trophy, Gerd Mueller Trophy, Best Club of the Year and Women’s Ballon d’Or.
