It’s been a football secret for months, but it’s finally official: Karim Benzema has won the 2022 Ballon d’Or. The Real Madrid forward won the Ballon d’Or at the annual ceremony held in Paris after an extraordinary 2021/22 season by club and national team.
Benzema won the award for playing an important role in leading Real Madrid to win the Champions League and La Liga, as well as lifting the Nations League trophy with France in October 2021.
However, Benzema is only one of 30 nominees for the most prestigious individual awards in football, and France Football revealed the complete rankings of all candidates after the final vote.
Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar have both been left out, but the list is still full of football’s best and biggest stars.
