Ballet dancer and BMX player perform in second semifinal Eurovision Song Contest | NOW

Ballet dancer Ahmad Joudeh and BMX’er Dez Maarsen combine their work during the interval of the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest in Ahoy Rotterdam.

Joudeh is known for the documentary, among other things Dance or Die who won an Emmy Award in the Arts Programming category in 2019. For his performances he combines classical ballet, contemporary dance and the Arabic Sufi (twirling).

“My mission in life is to tell my story, because my story relates to many people who need a voice. Our society consists of people from different places and with different cultures, yet we are all Dutch.”

Maarsen is considered one of the best BMXers in flatland and combines his tricks with music. For the performance in Rotterdam, he builds a new bicycle to enhance the symbolism of the performance. “Our performance is poetic. It’s about people from different cultures who, despite their diverse backgrounds, find common ground. It’s about acceptance.”

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam on 18, 20 and 22 May this year. Jeangu Macrooy is participating for the Netherlands with his number Birth of a New Age.
